Austin Ad Fed Hispanic Marketing Symposium 11/11/09

(Austin, TX, November 2, 2009)–The Austin Advertising Federation is hosting its first annual HispanicMarketing Symposium (HMS) on November 11, 2009, 11am-2 pm, at the AT&TExecutive Education and Conference Center at UT Austin.

“The Ad Fed is thrilled to host this groundbreaking conference, and to bring more insight and sophisticationinto multicultural marketing,” says chapter President Kevin Cassis. “Clearly, Latinos are part of themainstream now and extremely important to the fabric of our culture. Learning how to better reach andinfluence this vital group of consumers will help our members and advertiserstremendously.”

The HMS luncheon will be highlighted by nationally recognized Hispanic market experts: Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, Professor ofMedicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Cultureat the School of Medicine, UCLA; advertising guru Sergio Alcocer, President andChief Creative Officer of the award-winning Austin-based advertising agency,LatinWorks, joined by Danny Cervantes and Tommy Thompson, who collaborate asclient and agency on McDonalds’ Hispanic efforts.

The event will be moderated by Becky Arreaga, a partner in Mercury Mambo, a Hispanic Experiential Marketing,Sales Promotions, and Branding Agency.

According to the Selig Center forEconomic Growth at the University of Georgia, Latino buying power in Texasalone will reach nearly $252 billion by 2013.

Dr. Hayes-Bautista is an experton Hispanic health issues and the author of “Southwest’s Mexican Roots: TheUntold Stories” whichexplores the history of Mexicans in the Southwest. Mr. Alcocer has developedmany high profile campaigns, including Bud Light’s ads for the 2007 Super Bowl,and has captured top awards including the Cannes Lions Festival, FIAP, CLIOs,national Addy’s, and Grand Prix at Festival Caribe. Danny Cervantes isMcDonald’s Regional Marketing Manager. Together with Tommy Thompson, theLatin-born president of iNSPIRE, they’re responsible for the success ofMcDonalds’ McCafé launch. Their in-depth understanding of the uniquecharacteristics of Texas’ Hispanics led them to a unique marketing approachwith results which outpaced those of comparable stores throughout the country.
